Poplar D4S Lumber is a very common material used to build solid wood furniture. The main difference between D4S lumber and non-D4S lumber is that D4S lumber has been dressed on all 4 sides, hence where the name comes from. Poplar is one of the most common utility hardwoods in North America. It is considered a utility wood in nearly every sense. It’s used for pallets, crates, upholstered furniture frames, paper (pulpwood), and plywood and a variety of other useful applications. The heartwood is usually cream-white to grey-green, and the grain is typically straight and uniform with a medium texture. Poplar has a low natural luster and is moderately durable to non-durable in terms of decay resistance, and susceptible to insect attacks. It is very easy to work in any situation. Although one of its downsides is its softness. Because of its low density, Poplar can sometimes leave fuzzy surfaces and edges, so it is recommended using finer grits of sandpaper to achieve a smoother surface.
